Rough Opening Rounds For Jamaican Skeleton At Winter Olympics

Anthony Watson – Jamaica’s first skeleton at the Winter Olympics  produced times of  53.13 and 54.04 seconds in his first two runs in the Men’s  skeleton  competition  at  the  winter  Olympics  in  Pyeonchang.

He now sits in 29th  position overall  following his slides in heat one and heat two where he clocked his  fastest ever  starts  at 4.91  seconds.

Skeleton is a winter sport featured in the Winter Olympics where the competitor rides head-first and prone (lying face down) on a flat sled. It is normally run on an ice track that allows the sled to gain speed by gravity. 

Competitors generally hit speeds between from 70 to 80 miles per hour, but speeds sometimes get as high as 90 miles per hour.

  

Watson, with  an  overall  time  of  1-minute-47.17 seconds is 6.82 seconds behind  the  overall  leader Yun Sungbin of  South  Korea  who  has  a  cumulative  time  of  1-minute-40.35 seconds.

Russian athlete Nikita Tregubov currently lags behind Yun Sungbin by 0.74 seconds.
