Damian Marley to Transform US Prison into Marijuana Farm

Bob Marley’s youngest son – Damian Marley recently disclosed that he will be converting a former prison in the US state of California into a marijuana farm.

“Damian Marley, along with business partner Ocean Grown Extracts, has created a poetic metaphor and multi-million dollar business model in one,” wrote Andy Gensler in a Billboard exclusive published on October 3.

According to Billboard, the popular reggae artiste has partnered with the company Ocean Growth Extracts to transform a California State prison into a growth space cultivating medical marijuana.

“Many people sacrificed so much for the herb over the years who got locked up,” says Marley. “If this [venture] helps people and it’s used for medicinal purposes and inspires people, it’s a success.”

The facility that will be used, formerly Claremont Custody Center in Coalinga, California boasts 77,000 sqaure feet and is expected to generate 100 jobs in a region that has been plagued by economic stagnation.

The venture is also expected to generate an estimated million dollars in tax revenues.

It may prove to be perfect timing for such a venture as well as marijuana use by adults, (both recreational and medicinal) in California could be legalised in just a few weeks.

The California Marijuana Legalization Initiative, also known as California Proposition 64 will allow persons to vote for or against the legalisation of the recreational use of marijuana for adults aged 21 years or older.

Voting takes place on November 8, 2016.
