Jamaican Dad Writes Touching Letters to Sorely Missed Daughter Living Overseas

It is oftentimes said that a father has an extra special love for his daughter.

Most caring fathers are more protective of their girls than boys.

When one of our contributors — Oakley Lyle wrote two touching letters to his daughter currently living abroad who he says he has not been allowed to see or communicate with for some time, we knew we had to share them.

Oakley’s daughter is hearing impaired so it makes getting in touch with her quite difficult.

Previously he was allowed to communicate with her via Facebook Messenger. Now he says he is no longer afforded that privilege.

See his heart-wrenching letters below:

Dear Karalee

There was a time I could climb a flight of a hundred stairs and never feel winded

But as I grow older, losing a lot along the way, I push on if only by the minute

Karalee

We are both getting older and it’s true Sweetie, I’m quickly losing my youth
But you are growing to be so beautiful, I hope time stands still just for you

I pray for you with my every breath that you’ll enjoy your entire childhood
Hoping that as I get older and wiser, you will remain ever so beautiful

Never ever believe for even a moment that I don’t think of you always
Oh my nights are quite busy too, wondering if you have had a lovely day

Shhh, your little heart beats so loud, I can hear it from more than a mile
So I write my “Dear Karalee” letters because you are always on my mind

Goodbye for now, my darling Karalee you’ve filled my heart with smiles
So continue being an angel, and never forget to think of me sometimes

Loving you always,
Daddy – @ PurpleHeart.

Second Letter

Dear Karalee,

I’m signing now worst than ever and, for that, you’d have your usual funny laughs
But my writing has improved tremendously, too, as I try to hone my craft

I’m not famously important or anything like that but many, do, know my name
Yet, I feel the same way about you and nothing about my love has changed.

Karalee
Karalee

I pray each day that you have settled into school well, learning all that’s totally new
But I know your brilliant mind catches on quickly: learning is so easy for you.

You can’t hear my voice but my heart speaks louder with the passing of time
It pains me that you went so far away, without a visit, hug or a letter, goodbye

I don’t blame you at all for leaving like you did because you’re only but a child.
Still, your love is secure with mom and dad, even when we don’t see eye to eye

So if ever you should get a chance to read my Dear Karalee letters, anytime now
I pray that you’ll come to realize that that you are still my baby girl, without a doubt

I hope that you will always remember the many fun times we had here at home.
And yes, all your things are as you left, no one has taken your place or your room

Remember, first and foremost, you are my true love so know that can never change
And that you’ll still be mine even if you ever get married and change your name.

Your sister, Tiffany, often speaks to me of you and I know she misses you a lot
And though you are your mommy’s world, so many of us adore you non-stop.

A clap or shout may not get your attention no matter how loudly and often it’s done
But you don’t need to hear a clap or a shout to understand the depth of my love.

Enough for today as I painfully write down the constant burden of my every word
But wherever you are and whatever you’re doing, you are still daddy’s little girl.

With all my love,
Daddy – @PurpleHeart
