Obama’s immigration reform plan could shelter many Jamaicans from deportation (Video)

The US president – Barack Obama on Thursday night (November 20) announced a plan to legalize up to 5 million illegal immigrants in the United States.

Many Jamaicans currently reside in the United States illegally and stand to benefit from the president’s plan once they meet the necessary requirements.

While the plan is not a pathway to citizenship and will not provide persons with a green card, it will shelter almost 5 million illegal immigrants from deportation.

President Obama in a televised address, urged illegal immigrants to “come out of the shadows and get right with the law.

Currently there are about 11 million illegal immigrants in the US.

The majority of those affected by Mr. Obama’s action are the parents of children who are US citizens or legal residents.

The US President told Americans that what he is proposing is not an amnesty, but a common-sense, middle ground approach.

Do you think his plan will benefit many Jamaicans living in the United States illegally?

Watch his speech below and share your thoughts.
