A pre-approval letter is simply a document from a lender stating that the lender is willing to lend to you a certain amount of money.

A pre-approval letter signifies to real estate agents and vendors that you are serious and meet the requirements to secure a mortgage.

Documents required for pre-approval typically include:
- copies of driver’s licence and birth certificate or passport
- tax registration number
- income verification letter
- proof of address
- last three payslips
- completion of credit report forms
Once the required pre-approval documents have been submitted, the chosen mortgage institution will carry out an assessment and issue the pre-approval letter, provided you are deemed eligible.
Persons living overseas are also typically required to provide a credit report which includes their credit score.
Pre-approval letters, once granted are usually valid for a period of up to three months.
