Sunshine girl Shamera Sterling is the top ranked player in the 2023 season of the Suncorp Super Netball league in Australia.
This follows her sensational campaign where she played a pivotal role in guiding the Adelaide Thunderbirds to their first championship victory in a decade.
Stephanie Smarrelli, in her rankings posted on the official Suncorp Super Netball website, placed Shamera Sterling at the pinnacle of the list, a testament to her outstanding contribution throughout the season.
Sterling’s dominance was on full display as she led the league in intercepts and deflections, demonstrating her exceptional defensive skills.
Additionally, she secured the second spot in the league for defensive rebounds, showcasing her versatility and adaptability on the court.
The 2023 season showcased the incredible talent of numerous netball athletes, and Sterling’s achievement is all the more remarkable given the stiff competition she faced.
Helen Housby of the NSW Swifts secured the second spot in the rankings, followed closely by Courtney Bruce of the West Coast Fever.
Jamie-Lee Price, representing the Giants Netball club, claimed the fourth spot, while Sterling’s teammate, Eleanor Cardwell, rounded out the top five.
Jamaican netballers had a significant presence on the list of top performers in the 2023 season, emphasising the Caribbean nation’s growing influence in the sport.
Jodi-Ann Ward of the Collingwood Magpies earned the sixth spot with her stellar defensive contributions.
Reigning MVP Jhaniele Fowler of the West Coast Fever, who has consistently proven herself as a force to be reckoned with, secured the seventh position.
Latanya Wilson, another Jamaican talent and a key player for the champion Adelaide Thunderbirds, claimed the ninth spot in the rankings.
