Establishment Of National Cybersecurity Authority In The Works
The Jamaican government plans to establish a National Cybersecurity Authority to oversee the development of national cybersecurity policies, monitor cyber threats, provide skills training, and cultivate human capital.
This initiative will be made possible with financial support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
During his delivery of the Throne Speech at the opening of the 2023/24 session of Parliament on February 14, the Governor-General, His Excellency Patrick Allen, revealed that the final touches were being put on the Regulations under the Data Protection Act 2020.
Among the top programs and policies that the government aims to implement in the upcoming year is the establishment of a national broadband network as a major development project. This will be the second initiative of its kind, and its implementation will enable technological access throughout the island.
Additionally, the government has collaborated with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to create a Strategic Framework for the adoption of electric mobility in Jamaica. The Cabinet approved this framework in March 2022, along with Fiscal Incentives in June of the same year. The Electric Vehicle Policy is slated to be completed by June 2023.
The government will also prioritise the development of Energy Efficiency and Conservation Guidelines for government buildings.
