Gov’t Implementing Measures To Tackle Coronavirus

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the government is taking measures to handle the novel coronavirus, if it reaches the island.

While speaking at a Jamaica Labour Party spot meeting in Portland Cottage, in South East Clarendon recently, Mr Holness said:

“We note that there is one case reported so far in Latin America – in Brazil so we know that it is coming closer and closer.

He said that some of the measures may prove to be inconvenient for some persons but the safety of Jamaicans is of utmost importance.

“The Minister of Health has been very diligent. We have put in place, as fast as we can travel restrictions. It has caused some dislocation and some discomfort but the policy of the government is to err on the side of caution in protecting the health of the Jamaican people,” said the Prime Minister.

He added:

“I will be convening to discuss and approve a plan of action developed by the Ministry of Health. I will convening the National Disaster Committee which will bring together all the agencies that will have a part to play in case the unwanted happens. Jamaica will be prepared!”
