Red Stripe Buys New Sled For Jamaica’s Women’s Bobsled Team!

On Wednesday, reports surfaced regarding the abrupt resignation of the coach for Jamaica’s first ever female Winter Olympics team- Sandra Kiriasis.

After vacating her position, speculation regarding the potential impact her departure would have on the team was rampant.

A report by BBC Sport said  Kiriasis was seeking payment for the team’s sled but the Jamaica Bobsleigh Federation declined and is disputing she owns the sled.

But amid the dispute regarding ownership of the sled, world renowned beer brand Red Stripe offered to cover the cost of a new sled.

Via a tweet posted yesterday morning, Red Stripe USA said:

“No bobsled, no problem. If you need a new ride @Jambobsled, put it on @RedStripe’s tab. DM us and we’ll be in touch.”

The Jamaican bobsled team’s official account responded shortly after saying:

And on Thursday night The Gleaner confirmed that Red Stripe had delivered on their promise.

Jamaica Bobsled and Skeleton Federation (JBSF) president Chris Stokes is quoted by The Gleaner as saying:

“We have been gifted a bobsled from Red Stripe. We have accepted their generosity and we are currently preparing the sled. The team is in competition mode and we are focused on one goal – coming to the start line prepared mentally and physically.”

Jamaica’s women’s team will commence official training on Saturday (Feb 17) before their heats on Tuesday and Wednesday.
