Jamaica Sees Significant Drop in Murders

A significant 31% drop in Jamaica’s murder rate has been attributed to the collective efforts of security forces, government agencies, and citizens, according to the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC).

Highlighting the importance of collaboration, the JCC noted in a Monday media release that strategic investments in national security and the commitment of stakeholders have been key to this achievement.

By March 15, 2025, the country reported 158 murders, a notable decline from 226 during the same period in 2024. This follows a 19% reduction in murders from 2023 to 2024, with numbers falling from 1,397 to 1,138.

For Jamaican businesses, crime has consistently been the primary concern, overshadowed only briefly during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Improved safety not only enhances citizens’ quality of life but also boosts investor confidence and fosters economic growth, the JCC emphasized.

Continued collaboration is essential to further reduce crime and build a safer, more prosperous nation, the Chamber stressed.

Encouraged by the progress, the JCC urged all stakeholders to maintain their efforts, stating, “Keep up the great work. Jamaica’s fight against crime is moving in the right direction.”

Recognition was extended to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA), and other supporting entities, including community groups and concerned citizens, for their unified efforts in creating safer communities.
