Hotel caught operating on illegal electricity
The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) says its crews discovered a 36 room hotel in Sydneham, St Catherine being supplied entirely by an illegal connection.
In a statement this afternoonJPS says the discovery was made last evening. The company says the owner of the hotel was caught on the roof during the operation allegedly attempting to remove the connection.
According to the electricity company, the man immediately attempted to offer the crews, 500 thousand dollars cash to overlook the matter.
He was taken to the Spanish town police station where he was arrested and charged. He was not named.The light and power company says, other investigations in the parish, in the Cow Gully area of Bog Walk, resulted in the arrest of three persons.
Its alleged, that two shop operators and the occupant of a residence were found to be receiving supply from an illegal connection.
JPS is repeating its appeal to persons who are not regularized to make arrangements to do so.
Corporate communications officer, Audrey Williams says the company is finding instances of electricity theft, in residential, and commercial areas.
