Something is Rotten in Jamaica
There is something rotten in Denmark, or should I say Jamaica, in every sphere of public life.
This country has found itself in the position whereby apart from the “the land is green and the sunshineth” there is hardly anything good to say about this island. Our economy is in a mess, our crime rate has begun to soar again, hardships of all sorts abound, and to top it off there is a wave of hopelessness sweeping across the island. Our morals are as loose as water, parenting the proper way is almost existent and our school girls are prostituting themselves for a ‘box food’. There is indeed something rotten in the state of Jamaica.
This point was driven home even more forcefully last week while I was attending a political treat, put on for kids. After the party and games were over, some of the latest slack music started playing and to my amazement I saw a mother with a child not more than a year old, and not more than a foot and a half in height dancing. What was shocking to me about this scene was that the mother had the child on a domino table top and was directing the child how to ‘wine up’ herself to the songs!!! I watched in horror and growing anger until I couldn’t stand it anymore and I said to someone beside me: “If that is the type of parenting around then parents should not have anything to say when their children get pregnant in schools they should not complain one bit.” To my surprise the young man that claims he is a father actually rebuked me saying in essence nothing is wrong- it’s apart of our culture. Now whenever a father can see nothing wrong with a baby girl for that matter, at such a young age, standing on a table top and dancing to the latest nastiness before learning to say “momma”, you know this nation is on the road to destruction.
The way how children are being raised today is shocking. Children from a young age are being put into ear rings, belly rings, short skirts exposing their private areas if they bend down, etc. All of these things have contributed to young children being forced to grow up way too early, warping their minds, and destroying their childhoods in the most destructive ways possible. These mothers and fathers nowadays are the worst set of hoodlums ever. They have no concept of how to properly raise children, no idea of what proper morals are and are certainly not fit to be parents. The old adage and scripture that says: “grow up a child in the way that he should go and when he is old he will not depart” should be instilled in these nowadays parents.
Look at the society we live in today and tell me if this generation isn’t the worse we have ever seen in all generations? Understandably at the same time that this sort of parenting has taken over, or lack thereof, from the old ways of discipline. There has been a remarkable increase in lawlessness and general disorder right across the society. At one point churches were considered off limits for criminals, now they burglarize churches and steal more than they do elsewhere. In schools, teachers can’t even teach in peace as children think it’s a right to be disruptive and generally disrespectful and if the teacher dares scold them he or she is threatened or even physically harmed. Even worse, is that they go home for their God forsaking parents who turn up at the schools and assault the teachers!
Many young girls attending school have no value for education or themselves. They will engage in any sexual act for the latest smartphone, a box food or a drive to school. We are witnessing the emergence of a nation of whores and prostitutes in school uniforms. They go to the highest bidder like how slaves used to be traded during the slavery era. Young girls now seem to be in a race to see who can get the most babies. Some have several children by the time they become adults.
The youngsters are the future of our country, and if they are behaving like they are doing now it’s highly probable they will do no better in the future. It’s time for parents to start being parents again and instill proper discipline and morals into their children in an attempt to safeguard our future from total destruction. Right and wrong must be taught again in the homes, children must be sent to Sunday school or Sabbath schools. How many of us remember the days when we used to learn how to behave from some stern Sunday and Sabbath schoolteachers? When they said “SIT UP”, you had to immediately sit up. That kind of early discipline helped us to become proper citizens who have been able to live productive and lawful lives.

There is still hope, We need to get back into dance hall industry as sober minded Jamaicans and regulate how it acts in relations to the public on a whole. If we can control dance hall then we the parents can some how use it to influence our children in a positive way. I challenge persons from the society to take up their roles as managers and get back into dance hall, hold it by the horn put it in ropes, and pull it back to modesty, integrity and respectability. We cannot afford dance hall to become what hip-hop is.

I think this writer is showing his age which is fine except that he forgets one thing- LIFE CHANGES. LIFE EVOLVES. Unless we realise that the centuries are and will be different, we will forever lament how decadent each generation is. Jamaica, is a beautiful island but the way children are brought up is SHOCKING , Parents have no clue at how to Bring up a child. Parents should be made to take a course in Parenting in University, College, or even High School as that is when they are having children and also younger!!!!!!! People should be Evaluated for MENTAL ILLINESS and treated if they are Mentally ill!!! people especially Children should get councilling when they have been Phisically assulted or Sexually Assulted!!! and there should be a removal from their life of the people who assulted them!! This generation is nothing to recon with, things and time have change. We have to keep a tight grip on our children from a young age and instill good values. When a child is raised in the proper manner eighty percent of the time you will see good result , the other twenty get lost along the way, We need more leadership as parents, theirs too much donors and carriers.
that’s usually the result of children who weren’t conceived in love, nor the parent having any wisdom.i can’t say this enough that there needs to be a law that bans people from having children. if anyone wants to have a child, they have to go to court so they can investigate the mental state of the wannabe parents, their financial background and their ability to show love and discipline.
Those things are happening from day one, it’s just because you people can’t or couldn’t see it, now time getting harder, everybody start watching each other more deeply.
I believe what you are saying but I am surprise you only notice this trend . This was happening for a long time, the problem is when a society plague with low standard of living crime,violence increase and moral standard fall to the lowest level. But their is still hope, and not all Jamaican are of that type.Their is lots of good Jamaican with good quality hard working with a high level of moral standard.

in the 80s things like these would never occur in the inner cities,but because of politics,area leaders and dons along with a few licky licky dancehall producers not to mention the fake radio personalities who play anything for money are the ones to blame..

I agree with the writer 100%. Although People evolve, but evolve into what and can we not do our part as to what part we play in evolution? We are the ones who accepted these types of behavior to be the normal. We are in the dark ages.

How can you say PARENTS to start behaving like parents when they are the same same nasty niggers. There is no hope, you can not touch them, talk to them or even try to collect them. Things might be worse twenty years down the line with the way technology is vibrating in their mind and brain.

I am from the old school the new cultural behaviour is sicken not just the nasty dance but the type of pants that they wear advertising that they are available is another story. Father God hurry up and come for your elected. In my opinion we are on the road to destruction.

Instead of playing the blame game. What are we doing as a people to hamper these atrocities from prolonging? A change can be made but it all starts by “starting” and not blaming parents who often times are children themselves. It takes a community to raise a child but until we realize and embrace this fact “the bagga chattings is indeed futile”

Jamaica is a beautiful island and lots of good comes out of Jamaica, i think this article only shows the negative side of this beautiful place, yes there are somethings that could be done differently, but if we spend less time judging each other and work to find a solution, then things would be much different. Also we NEED GOD, there is no way around it or sugarcoating it, without GOD this whole world is going to hell in a handbasket. Prayer works.

Well there parents tht r exposing their kids r the ones tht were exposed early , I was not grown up tht way so I don’t raise my kids tht way either , it the way if life now and trust me nothing going to Chang the bible has to fulfilled ok
You know what i observed, because I watched the video, , these kids were on the school compound behaving like this , there was adult teachers there. Who said “stop this vulgarity right now”? No one. There are adults selecting the music, don’t the have values, kids? Unbelievable man. Jamaica is done, finished. You mark my words.
We don’t need to get back into dancehall industry.we need to instill values in the learning institutions and in the homes.
