Nepal Crush West Indies for Landmark Series Win

Nepal secured a historic series win over West Indies after dismissing them for just 83 runs in Sharjah.

The world’s 18th-ranked side had never faced a full member in a bilateral T20 contest before, but clinched the three-match series with a game still to play.

A total of 83 marked the lowest score ever posted by a Test nation against an associate, while the 90-run margin represented the heaviest victory for an associate against a full member.

West Indies’ struggles deepened after their Test unit had been skittled for 27 by Australia in July, the second-smallest total in Test history and the worst in nearly seven decades.

That 3-0 whitewash prompted Cricket West Indies president Dr Kishore Shallow to convene an emergency review, bringing in legends Sir Viv Richards, Sir Clive Lloyd and Brian Lara.

The regional side had already missed qualification for the 2023 World Cup and currently sit outside the spots for the 2027 edition.

Nepal built their innings around a 100-run stand between Aasif Sheikh and Sundeep Jora, who smashed five sixes, as they closed on 173-6 from 20 overs.

West Indies, ranked sixth in T20s, never found rhythm in the chase, with only three batters reaching double figures.

At 63-4 in the 12th over there was still hope, but the innings fell apart quickly and the team folded for 83.

Australian coach Stuart Law guided Nepal to the upset, and his side now heads into 2026 T20 World Cup qualifiers after appearances in 2014 and 2024, while the West Indies also lost fast bowler Alzarri Joseph to a recurring back injury before the India Test series.
