Australia Tops, Jamaica Places Fifth in Netball World Youth Cup

Jamaica’s Under-21 squad has ended their journey at the Netball World Youth Cup in Gibraltar with a respectable fifth-place showing.

The young Sunshine Girls may have missed out on a medal, but they wrapped up their campaign in style by defeating Scotland 53-44 in their last contest.

Slim margins separated both teams in the early stages, with Jamaica edging ahead 14-13 in the first quarter and maintaining a 24-23 lead at the half.

By the close of the third period, the Jamaicans had widened the gap to 41-33 before holding firm to claim victory.

That result came after a 57-47 win over the Cook Islands in Friday’s classification fixture for positions five through eight.

With those back-to-back wins, the Caribbean side secured a top-five spot in the global competition.

Australia emerged as champions after overcoming defending title holders New Zealand 63-48 in the final.

England took third place, powering past South Africa 55-34 to clinch the bronze medal.
