Ninety-six percent of Jamaica Public Service (JPS) customers have had their power restored, according to Energy Minister Daryl Vaz.

However, customers in St. Elizabeth, which was severely impacted by Hurricane Beryl, are not included in this percentage.

Minister Vaz reported that 26,000 JPS customers outside of St. Elizabeth are still without power.

He expressed concern that 83% of St. Elizabeth customers remain in darkness, describing the situation as a crisis.

Vaz emphasised the importance of addressing the smaller pockets outside the worst-affected areas that are still without power.

Following a tour of the island last week, Minister Vaz shared that he was emotionally distressed by the living conditions of citizens who are without power and water.
