Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls Stun Australia in Fast5 World Series Opener!

On Friday Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls delivered a shocking 38-36 victory against defending champions Australia in the opening match of the 2023 Fast5 World Series in New Zealand.

The Sunshine Girls utilised a final-quarter power play to turn the tide and secure a memorable win in the international netball tournament.

With the game hanging in the balance at 36-32 and just seven seconds left on the clock, Gezelle Allison emerged as the hero for Jamaica.

A remarkable double-point three-pointer from Allison sealed the victory, leaving the defending champions in disbelief.

Allison, who led the Sunshine Girls with an outstanding game-high of 29 goals from a mere 14 attempts, was rightfully awarded the Player of the Game.

The English-born Rhae Dixon, making her debut with the Sunshine Girls, made a solid contribution with a perfect record of five goals from five attempts.

Meanwhile, veterans Romelda Aiken-George and Amanda Pinkney added two goals each to the scoreboard.

For the Australian side, Sophie Fawns led the scoring with 13 goals from 12 attempts, followed closely by Lucy Austin with 12 goals from 13 attempts.

Tippah Dwan and Georgie Horjus also contributed to the scoreline with six and five goals, respectively.

The Sunshine Girls later secured their second victory of the day, defeating Malawi 41-37.
