Port Antonio Cruise Pier in Jamaica May Undergo Further Development
The Caribbean Tourism Organization recently announced that the Ken Wright Cruise Ship Pier in Port Antonio, Jamaica, has concluded its busiest winter season to date, with the arrival of 12 boutique cruise ships throughout the 2022-23 season.
Jamaica’s Tourism Minister, Edmund Bartlett, expressed his satisfaction with the pier’s revival post-COVID, emphasizing the positive impact on the local economy.
Bartlett commended the efforts of the Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ) and the Jamaica Vacations (JAMVAC) team for their work in revitalizing the Port Antonio cruise industry.
In addition to the successful season, Bartlett disclosed ongoing discussions regarding the further development of the Ken Wright Pier, with hopes of positioning it as a preferred port of call for cruise ships.
He highlighted the government’s significant investments in transforming the eastern end of the island, underscoring the importance of the Destination Assurance Framework and Strategy (DAFS) in creating a unique and profitable tourism experience for both locals and visitors in Portland.
Furthermore, Bartlett hinted at future plans to integrate Navy Island into the tourism product, although he withheld specific details until a later announcement.
With the Port Antonio pier demonstrating an upward trajectory, these developments aim to enhance the overall tourism landscape and foster economic growth in the region.
