Asafa Powell Wins 100m Race at Zurich Diamond League
The Sub 10 King Strikes Again
Jamaica’s Asafa Powell was today victorious in the men’s 100m event at the Diamond League in Zurich, Switzerland.
Powell crossed the line ahead of his competitors in 9.94 seconds, ahead of Akani Simbine of South Africa (9.99).
The Ivory Coast’s Ben Youssef Meite was third in equal time — 9.99 seconds.
Powell was also victorious in the same event at the Lausanne Diamond League meet last week, just a week after helping Jamaica’s Men’s 4x100m Relay team earn gold at the Rio Olympics in Brazil.
As a former world’s fastest man, Powell held the 100 metres world record between June 2005 and May 2008, with times of 9.77 and 9.74 seconds.
He has also consistently broken the 10-second barrier in competition, with his personal best of 9.72s being the fifth fastest time in the history of the event.
