Elaine Thompson Beats Dafne Schippers Again, Sets New Diamond League Record

Elaine Thompson has already cemented her standing as the best female sprinter in the world.

In what was  undoubtedly one of the most electrifying races at the recently concluded Olympic Games, Thompson clocked 21.78s to beat the 2015 world champion, Dafne Schippers of the Netherlands.

Schippers, at the time was believed to be unbeatable over that distance.

Today, (September 1), the double Olympic champion once again bested Schippers after she posted a new Diamond League record of 21.85 seconds seconds to win the women’s 200m at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Zurich.

Thompson exited the bend in third place, but managed to find the required acceleration to cross the finish line just ahead of Schippers.

The Dutch athlete clocked a season’s best of 21.86 seconds.

America’s Allyson Felix, the London 2012 gold medal winner, was third in a season’s best 22.02s with Dina Asher-Smith (22.38) of Great Britain fourth.

Jamaica’s Simoney Facey (22.50s) and Veronica Campbell-Bronw (22.51s) were 5th and 6th respectively.
