11 Jamaican Male “Movers and Shakers” in the Diaspora
A short list of men from Jamaica or of Jamaican descent who are “moving” and “shaking” things in a big way overseas. 🙂
Of course there are many more but these ten are being highlighted today.

ROGER CROSS: Jamaican-born Canadian actor who has made numerous appearances in several movies and TV series, mostly on productions shot in Canada.
He is best known for his work in America on 24 as CTU Agent Curtis Manning, and in Canada for his work on First Wave. From 2012-2015, Cross appeared in the Canadian series Continuum as a main character. He now currently appears as Staff Sergeant Boyd Bloom in the Canadian police procedural Motive, and as Six / Griffin Jones in the Syfy series Dark Matter.
DIEGO McKNIGHT: One of the best-trained and most highly-skilled pilots in the world. Among elite group of some 400 persons who can operate the Navy’s MH-60 Romeo multi-mission helicopter, the world’s most-advanced anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare helicopter.
PATRICK LIPTON ROBINSON: Presided over the trial of Slobodan Milošević, the former Yugoslav president. Elected as a member of the International Court of Justice in February 2015.
COLIN POWELL: Born in Harlem NY to Jamaican parents. 65th United States Secretary of State, serving under U.S. President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2005. So far, the only black man to serve on the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He retired as a four-star general in the United States Army.
LOUIS FARRAKHAN: Leader of Nation of Islam (NOI). His mother was born in Saint Kitts and Nevis. His father was a Jamaican native and worked as a taxicab driver.
MARK SAUNDERS: Born in England to Jamaican parents. Current Chief of the Toronto Police Service, making history as the first black leader of the largest municipal police service in Canada. He is also the second Black person to head a police force in Canada, having been preceded by Devon Clunis of the Winnipeg Police Service in 2012.
MAJOR GENERAL VINCENT STEWART: Son of Kingston, Jamaica. He is Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, first Black and the first Marine to hold the position of the military’s top spy chief.
DELROY LINDO: Son of Jamaican parents. Famous actor actor and theatre director. He has been nominated for the Tony and Screen Actors Guild awards and has won a Satellite Award. He is perhaps best known for his roles in a trio of Spike Lee films, especially as West Indian Archie in Lee’s Malcolm X (1992) and Woody Carmichael in Crooklyn (1994), Catlett in Get Shorty, Arthur Rose in The Cider House Rules, and Detective Castlebeck in Gone in 60 Seconds (2000).
TYSON BECKFORD: Born in Rochester, New York on December 19, 1970 to a Jamaican father and Jamaican mother of Panamanian, Afro-Jamaican and Chinese descent. Famous fashion model and actor, best known as a Ralph Lauren Polo model. He was also the host of both seasons of the Bravo program Make Me a Supermodel.
