The Chinese Will Soon Own the Best of This Country

Dr. Carolyn Cooper highlighted a very important happening recently.

In her article published in the Gleaner, titled “Selling Jamaica To ‘Mr Chin’“, she states:

“I recently heard that a long-time resident of Hope Pastures was driving home when he was stopped by the police for a spot check. He was told that the Chinese had been complaining about strange people driving through Hope Pastures. A lot of new Chinese have been buying houses there.”

Whether we turn a blind eye or play hypocrites, it is staring us in the face – the increased property purchases by the Chinese immigrants.

No longer are they temporary citizens, the Chinese are holding on to prime Jamaican properties and buildings right across the island.

The Chinese have total ownership of many businesses formerly owned by blacks in places such as Spalding, Clarendon, Christiana, Manchester, Alexandria, and Brown’s Town, St. Ann.

Alexandria (Another town in St Ann), in particular no longer has any black businesses. Quite sad for a progressive town built on the sweat and tears of black Jamaican and black- German  Jamaicans.

While no one can deny people acquiring property as it is their human and democratic right, it is alarming that many of the Chinese are behaving as if they own the country.

Their periodical demands upon the police to deter any black face who passes by their residence is downright rude. I would say it is racist.

This is the same behavior demonstrated to the people of Africa in areas of Zambia, South Africa, Namibia, Uganda and Zimbabwe where they conduct business and are now purchasing real estate for permanent abode.

While we invite and welcome foreigners, they should realize that they cannot intrude and trample upon the rights of locals. Their failure to respect the rights and privileges of Jamaicans will only lead to poor relationships and intolerance.
