Maia Chung Artworks (MCA), a company formed by Jamaican visual artist Maia Chung in 2017…this December 2018, dropped the first set of art related mass merchandise, it has committed to develop over the period of its existence.
The new merchandise line has begun it’s rollout with wearable gear, for the whole family, targeting the Tourism market as it’s main focus, the company is now providing not just “wear gear”, but by February 2019 providing usable products such as hats and bags.
The MCA brand icon being pushed, in its initial rollout, is based on artwork by Maia Chung, specifically her Miss Jamaica Pain painting, which is now on exhibition at the Inter-American Development Bank headquarters in the U.S.; as a part of its 2018 global moving art installation called Sidewalk of the Americas.
The merchandise name, was shortened to Miss Jamaica.
The painting by Chung, was selected by the IDB art collection, as the Jamaican representative piece, and depicts the struggle of the present day Caribbean woman, to be acknowledged as beautiful, in a contemporary world that is glorifying other racial standards as “true” beauty. The merchandise now available is geared to the entire family.
Chung explains – males and females, any age or gender that wear our gear, are endorsing Jamaican beauty, in all forms.
In 2017 the artist formed her first art commerce focused company, MCA, in tandem with the Jamaican Business Development Corporation (JBDC), to capitalize on the potential, mass earnings involved in art.
Since then MCA has developed several products, specifically aimed at the mass art market; most typically associated with tourism. Tourism is one of Jamaica”s top GDP contributors.

As at December 21, 2018 the first set of products developed by the company are now officially available at the following sale points: Devon House, Kingston, the Norman Manley International Airport and the Corporate Things Jamaican store.
