Shivnarine Chanderpaul climbs to 3rd on ICC Test batting rankings
Veteran West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who hit a century and a half-century in the just concluded three-test series against New Zealand, has moved up two places to number three in the latest ICC Test Rankings for batsmen.
Chanderpaul finished the series with 256 runs at an average of 64.00 while Darren Bravo at 20. Chris Gayle remains at 25 despite being inactive while Marlon Samuels at 29 are the only other West Indians inside the top 30.
Ross Taylor, who topped the run-scoring charts in the series having hit a century in each of the three tests, also moved up two spots to a career-best no. 4. South Africa’s AB de Villiers is the top ranked batsman ahead of his countryman Hashim Amla at 2 while Australian captain Micheal Clarke is at 5.
Meanwhile South Africa seamer Vernon Philander has ended teammate Dale Steyn’s four-year spell at the top of the ICC Rankings for Test Bowlers.
The 28 year old Philander ended with match figures of 7-129 during last week’s drawn first test against India in Johannesburg and became the fastest South African to reach 100 test wickets in 19 matches.
Kemar Roach is the highest ranked West Indies bowler at 17, while the suspended Shane Shillingford at 20 and Darren Sammy at 30 are the only other West Indian bowlers inside the top 30.
