Dr. Holness Set to Take Oath as Jamaica’s Prime Minister Today

Jamaica is set to witness the swearing-in of Dr. Andrew Holness as Prime Minister today.

The recent September 3 General Election resulted in a win for the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP).

Securing 35 seats, the JLP outpaced the People’s National Party, which captured 28 seats.

Governor General Sir Patrick Allen will administer the oath of office at King’s House at 4:00 P.M., according to a media advisory.

Today’s ceremony marks the fourth occasion Dr. Holness assumes the role of Prime Minister, having previously been sworn in during 2011, 2016, and 2020.

Cabinet members are scheduled to take their oaths at 2:00 P.M. tomorrow.

Political commentator Linton Gordon has expressed optimism that the Prime Minister will focus on national unity in his address.

He also urges Dr. Holness to pledge that citizens will be treated equally, irrespective of political leanings.

Traffic disruptions are expected along Hope Road, East Kings House Road, and adjacent areas due to the event.

Authorities advise motorists to exercise patience and consider alternate routes throughout today.
