Jamaica Snatch Last-Gasp Win to Begin Concacaf U-20 Campaign

Jamaica left it late to claim all three points as Brandon Bent struck in stoppage time to hand the young Reggae Boyz a dramatic 2-1 victory over Honduras in their opening Group C match of the Concacaf Under-20 Championships at Estadio Universitario BUAP in Puebla, Mexico.

The decisive moment came after Honduras failed to deal with a corner. Bent reacted first to the loose ball, shifted onto his left foot and fired over goalkeeper Alan Cury to restore Jamaica’s advantage in added time.

The win gives Jamaica their first victory at the Concacaf Under-20 Championships since 2022. They now sit level on three points with Canada, who defeated Panama 3-0 in the group’s other fixture earlier on Sunday.

Honduras had grown into the contest after the break and eventually found an equaliser in the 75th minute. Victor Salazar completed a flowing move to score with his side’s first effort on target after sustained second-half pressure forced Jamaica onto the defensive.

Jamaica had gone ahead midway through the opening half through Jahmarie Nolan. His effort from the right side of the penalty area beat Cury and found the far corner to give the Caribbean side an early lead.

Kimarly Scott later had an opportunity to extend Jamaica’s advantage before half-time but was denied after shooting directly at the Honduran goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation.

Jamaica’s starting line-up featured Joshua Grant, Jaquan Brown, Jahmarie Nolan, Jermaine Young, Jabarie Howell, Jahmani Bell, Sean Leighton, Duwayne Burgher, Santana Headley, Kimarly Scott and Brandon Bent.
