Jamaican-Born Couple Celebrate Incredible $70 Million Lottery Win in Canada

Jamaican-born couple Audrey and Wills W. are celebrating a life-changing CA$70 million Lotto Max jackpot, with one of their biggest dreams now being to build a home in Jamaica.

The recently retired pair also plan to spend more time in the Caribbean, support relatives and friends, and pursue personal ambitions they had long put on hold.

Audrey hopes to build a home in Jamaica while renovating the kitchen of the couple’s Brampton residence. Wills, meanwhile, plans to buy and possibly restore vintage cars.

According to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), the winning ticket for the May 8 Lotto Max draw was a Quick Pick that Wills purchased as a Mother’s Day gift for Audrey.

The couple, who emigrated from Jamaica to Canada several decades ago, said they intend to take their time before making any major financial decisions. They reflected on arriving in Canada with very little before working hard, saving diligently and never living beyond their means.

Audrey discovered the win after scanning the ticket using the OLG mobile app. She initially believed the prize displayed was just CA$70, but Wills noticed there were far more zeros than she had realised.

After checking the ticket again, they discovered they had actually won CA$70 million. Audrey later recalled being so overwhelmed that she jumped onto the bed before dropping to her knees in disbelief.

The couple’s daughter had already suspected they were the jackpot winners after hearing that the winning Lotto Max ticket had been sold in Brampton. When Audrey and Wills finally shared the news, their daughter said she had believed all along that the ticket belonged to them.

OLG said the jackpot-winning Quick Pick ticket was purchased at the Canco One Stop Gas Station on Steeles Avenue in Brampton.
