Mason Greenwood Seeks Talks with Tuchel Over England Future, Eyes Jamaica Switch for 2026 World Cup

Jamaican football fans may soon have a new star in the mix, as 23-year-old forward Mason Greenwood is reportedly considering a switch to represent the Caribbean nation.

This development comes as the player remains uncertain about his future with the England national team.

Greenwood, who currently plays for Marseille, has scored five goals in seven appearances since joining the French club earlier this summer.

Despite his talent, his past legal issues and controversial exit from Manchester United have left his return to the England squad up in the air.

Greenwood, who earned his only England cap in 2020, was charged in 2022 with serious allegations involving personal conduct.

However, the case was dropped in early 2023 after key witnesses withdrew.

Despite the legal proceedings ending, the fallout from the accusations has continued to affect Greenwood’s professional career. Manchester United parted ways with the Bradford-born forward, and his move to Marseille was met with backlash.

Determined to play at the highest level, Greenwood is reportedly seeking discussions with newly appointed England manager Thomas Tuchel and the Football Association to explore a potential route back to the Three Lions squad. The ultimate goal? The 2026 World Cup, to be held in North America.

A source told *The Sun*: “Mason knows his chances of playing for England again are very slim. But he wants to check with the FA and Tuchel now he has been appointed to see what they think.”

Should his path to England remain blocked, Greenwood is prepared to switch allegiance to Jamaica, where his paternal grandparents hail from.

If the striker does decide to represent Jamaica, he would follow in the footsteps of other English-born footballers with Jamaican heritage who have opted to play for the Reggae Boyz. His inclusion could significantly boost Jamaica’s bid for World Cup qualification in 2026.

The forward’s hopes may also be buoyed by the openness shown by England’s recent interim management under Lee Carsley, who called up several first-time players. However, whether Tuchel’s regime will consider Greenwood remains uncertain.

Former England manager Gareth Southgate had left the door open for a potential return but acknowledged that Greenwood’s situation was not under consideration during his tenure due to the off-field issues.

Jamaican football fans will be watching closely to see if Greenwood ultimately joins the Reggae Boyz in their journey to North America in 2026. If he makes the switch, it would be a significant addition to the squad as they aim for their second World Cup appearance.
