Canada PM Meets With Prime Minister Andrew Holness
Prime Minister Andrew Holness recently engaged in a meeting with his Canadian counterpart, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
The meeting, which took place on Thursday occurred on the sidelines of the inaugural Canada-Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Summit hosted by Canada, signifying the growing importance of the region in Canadian foreign policy.
Accompanied by two key members of his cabinet, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mélanie Joly, and the Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development, Mary Ng, Prime Minister Trudeau emphasised the significance and commitment of the Canadian government towards enhancing its engagement with CARICOM member states.
A pivotal point of discussion during the meeting was the launch of the Canada-CARICOM Strategic Partnership, which both leaders highlighted as a pivotal step in bolstering the already robust and enduring relationship between Canada and CARICOM members.
Prime Minister Holness expressed gratitude for Canada’s role as the host of the CARICOM Summit, which gathered regional leaders and key stakeholders.
During the bilateral meeting, the two Prime Ministers underscored their shared priorities, which encompassed a wide range of critical issues.
Among these priorities were advancing climate resilience, boosting clean energy capacity and fostering inclusive and sustainable economies.
One of the significant points of discussion was Canada’s commitment to addressing the crisis in Haiti. Prime Minister Trudeau reaffirmed Canada’s dedication to working alongside CARICOM, the United Nations, and other international partners to reestablish peace and security in Haiti.
This commitment involves coordinating international security assistance, advancing Haitian-led solutions, and strengthening the capacity and resources of the Haitian National Police.
Prime Minister Trudeau expressed his gratitude to Jamaica for hosting the training of the Haitian National Police, highlighting the bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
