Minimum Wage Increased By Nearly 30 Percent

Minister of Labour and Social Security, Karl Samuda, has announced a 28.5 per cent increase in the national minimum wage.

As a result, the minimum wage for a 40-hour workweek will move from $7,000 to $9,000.

Cabinet approved the increases on Monday and they will take effect on April 1, 2022.

The minimum wage of security guards has also been increased from $9,700, to $10,500 for a 40-hour workweek.

The last time the minimum wage was increased was on August 1, 2018. 

It was increased by a more modest 12.9 per cent, raising the minimum pay for a 40-hour workweek from $6,200 to $7,000. Security guards’ minimum hourly rates were also raised from $8,854 to $9,700.
