Rising Reggae Boyz Stars Sign For Miami FC
Jahshaun Anglin and Lamar Walker, the pair of up-and-coming Jamaican internationals, have been signed by Miami FC in the USA’s second division of the USL Championship.
The club announced yesterday (29 January) the signing of the duo on their website “pending league and federation approval.”
Paul Dalglish, head coach and technical director, revealed to the club’s website: “Jahshaun and Lamar are two outstanding young players that we believe can flourish in our environment. “Lamar is a really creative player, and has a really good eye for a final pass. Jahshaun is a defensive midfielder with good athleticism and a really good range of passing.
“Both are already full Jamaican internationals, who have the ambition to play at the highest level. We believe with the staff and environment we have in place that we can fulfil their potential.”
The pair have only competed in the Red Stripe Premier in their native Jamaica prior to their move to the United States.
Kingston-born 19-year-old forward Jahshaun Anglin joins from Harbour View FC with Spanish Town-born 21-year-old winger Walker represented Portmore United from 2017 to 2020.
Anglin, who bagged two goals from 21 matches for Harbour View FC, has made just one appearance for Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz after coming on as a 58th-minute substitute for Peter-Lee Vassell in the 2-0 success over visitors Bermuda last March.
He was also a part of the Boyz squad who tackled hosts Saudi Arabia in back-to-back friendlies last November.
Walker, who hit five goals from 28 league outings for Portmore United from 2017 until last year, has represented the Boyz on seven occasions but only scored once – during the 6-0 demolition of Aruba in their CONCACAF Nations League contest in October 2019.
Like Anglin he was part of the whistlestop visit to Saudi Arabia, yet Walker played in both matches.
Dalglish believes that the pair of Jamaicans have solid futures in the game and added: “We want to be pioneers at Miami FC and create an extra revenue stream through player sales.”
Although the USL Championship is only second tier, the duo remain part of the future plans Jamaica head coach Theodore Whitmore who next has to tackle the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers for Qatar 2022.
