Shaw Nets Twice as Reggae Girlz Edge Five-Goal Thriller

A two-goal performance from Khadija Shaw powered Jamaica to a 3-2 comeback victory over Nicaragua in their Concacaf W Zone B Qualifiers clash at the Estadio Nacional on Monday.
Monday’s result marked Jamaica’s first triumph over a Central American opponent since July 2023 and lifted the Reggae Girlz back to the top of the standings on goal difference ahead of Nicaragua, who have completed one additional match.
With her brace, Shaw increased her international return to 62 goals from 46 appearances in Jamaican colours.
Although Jamaica began brightly, the visitors fell behind in the 27th minute after Sheyla Flores dispatched a penalty awarded for a handball inside the 18-yard box.
Persistence paid off in the 37th minute when Shaw met a cross from Tiffany Cameron, directing a header beyond goalkeeper Greta Genie and into the bottom corner.
Momentum swung decisively in Jamaica’s favour during the 58th minute as Shaw cleverly flicked the ball past Genie from close range to secure the lead.
Further breathing room arrived in the 68th minute courtesy of Shania Hayles, who netted her second goal in eight appearances to extend the advantage to 3-1.
Late drama unfolded when Nuria Marquez reduced the deficit in the 82nd minute, beating goalkeeper Rebecca Spencer to set up a tense finish.
Holding firm through the closing stages, Jamaica secured the three points and regained control of Zone B on goal difference.
