Dujuan “Whisper” Richards Joins Leicester City on Deadline-Day Loan

Dujuan Richards

Jamaican international Dujuan Richards, widely known as “Whisper”, has finalised a loan switch from Chelsea FC to Leicester City, with the move confirmed by his agent Craig Butler.

Confirmation of the transfer came on deadline day, as Butler described the decision as a crucial step in the 20-year-old attacker’s development.

Since joining Chelsea in 2024, Richards has struggled to force his way into the senior side, which features an array of established stars.

Speaking on the move, Butler, who is the founder of Phoenix Academy, emphasised the importance of ongoing player management rather than simply completing transfers.

“It’s important that we, as managers, don’t just transfer players and forget about them. It’s important that we continue to ensure that they get the opportunities that they need and the treatment that they need,” said Butler.

Further explaining the rationale behind the switch, Butler highlighted the need for consistent first-team exposure at this stage of Richards’ career.

“He’s going now to Leicester City to ensure that he gets the proper playing time and the development that he needs,” he added of the deadline-day arrangement.

Addressing Richards’ age and potential, Butler stressed that remaining at under-21 level would not serve the player’s long-term growth.

“It’s very important that at this age, you’re not playing Under 21 football when you have the potential to be a superstar. He has that potential, so we work hard to ensure that it gets done,” Butler pointed out.

Gratitude was also extended to Chelsea for facilitating the loan and supporting the player’s need for senior football.

“And thanks also Chelsea for working with us to ensure and not resisting and helping us to ensure that he gets the playing time rather than staying with the under 21s. He will be playing first team and they need a player like ‘Whisper’ that can do the damage that he can do and playing big man football will show everybody the quality of this player”.

Before his move to England, Richards made his name in local football after emerging from the ISSA Schoolboy Manning Cup with a standout campaign.

During his time at Kingston College, the striker scored more than 30 goals, earning a direct move overseas.

At international level, the forward has already found the net twice for Jamaica’s senior Reggae Boyz.

Notably, his second senior goal, which came against Bermuda in a World Cup Qualifier, was nominated for National Awards in the People’s Choice Performance of the Year category.

Meanwhile, Leicester City currently occupy 17th position in the English Football League Championship standings.
