Vybz Kartel Reportedly Granted US Visa
There are reports that dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel has been granted a United States visa, potentially clearing the way for his first trip to the US in nearly two decades.
According to Nationwide News Network, sources indicate that Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, collected his passport with the document on Monday afternoon in Liguanea, St. Andrew.
However, there has been no official confirmation from Kartel’s legal team or US authorities regarding the reported development.
This would mark a major milestone for the entertainer, who has been unable to travel to the US since 2005, when his visa was revoked by the US Embassy in Jamaica.
It is understood that with this apparent change in his travel status, the 49-year-old deejay is preparing to attend the 67th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, California.
The event, set to take place at the Crypto.com Arena on February 2, will see Kartel among the nominees in the Best Reggae Album category for his eight-track EP, Party with Me.
Kartel, who was released from prison in August 2024 after serving 13 years for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams, has been gradually resuming public engagements.
His conviction was deemed unsafe by the UK-based Privy Council, leading the local Court of Appeal to determine that a retrial was not in the best interest of justice.
