Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls End 2024 as World No.3 in World Netball Rankings
Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls have finished 2024 in third place in the World Netball (WN) World Rankings, following a series of high-profile victories and a year-end update reflecting significant positional shifts in the global standings.
The Sunshine Girls moved up one spot to secure their position, thanks to their 2-1 victory over England in the Vitality Horizon Series.
Jamaica now holds 189 rating points, overtaking England, who drop to 4th with 188 points. The English team had previously sat in second place after the last update on October 6, 2024.
The changes in the rankings come after a year of intense competition, with a total of 30 positional shifts across the global standings. Notably, New Zealand has moved back into second place with 192 points, after their victory over Australia in the Constellation Cup.
Despite a decrease in their rating by five points to 204, Australia retains their position at number one, though the gap between them and New Zealand has reduced from 20 to 12 points.
South Africa remains in 5th place with 160 points, having increased their rating after a clean sweep of Malawi in the SPAR Challenge Series.
The updated rankings also see Uganda (128), Malawi (125), Tonga (124), Wales (121), and Scotland (104) rounding out the top 10.
In addition, four new teams have entered the WN World Rankings following their performances at the Asia Netball Championships and Battle of the Saints.
India enters at 41st, while the British Virgin Islands, Chinese Taipei, and the Maldives have all joined the rankings at 45th, with identical points. St Maarten also makes a notable entry, pushing to 30th place after winning all their matches in the Battle of the Saints.
