Reggae Boy Joel Latibeaudiere On Target For Coventry City
Coventry City’s Ellis Simms scored a hat-trick, while Reggae Boy Joel Latibeaudiere added to the tally as the Sky Blues cruised to a 5-0 triumph over Rotherham United at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Simms wasted no time in asserting Coventry’s dominance, capitalising on an early defensive error by Rotherham’s Viktor Johansson to nod home inside the six-yard-box, just five minutes into the game.
The lead was swiftly doubled when Jamaican international Latibeaudiere rose highest to meet Jak Bidwell’s corner, heading past Johansson with precision in the 15th minute.
Undeterred by missed opportunities, Coventry continued to press forward, with Simms orchestrating the third goal, playing a delightful ball out wide to Haji Wright, who returned the favor for Simms to slam home his second of the evening.
As halftime approached, Simms completed his hat-trick in style, latching onto Bidwell’s delivery and unleashing a fierce shot that nestled into the top corner, leaving Johansson helpless.
With a commanding 4-0 lead at halftime, Coventry maintained their intensity into the second half.
Although opportunities came for both sides, it was Coventry who found the net again in the dying moments, with Fabio Tavares adding gloss to the scoreline in the 90th minute.
Manager Mark Robins’s substitutions injected further energy into Coventry’s attack, with Matty Godden and Milan van Ewijk coming close to extending the lead.
Despite Rotherham’s efforts, including several chances from set-pieces, Coventry’s goalkeeper Brad Collins remained resolute, denying any potential comeback.
