Opposition Leader Demands Details on Government’s Planned Income Tax Threshold Increase
Mark Golding, President of the People’s National Party, is pressing for transparency regarding a potential rise in the income tax threshold.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness, addressing his governing Jamaica Labour Party in Trelawny over the weekend, pledged a forthcoming increase in the threshold from its current $1.5 million mark.
However, specifics regarding the timing and extent of this increase remain undisclosed.
Golding emphasised on Tuesday that any elevation of the threshold should not be accompanied by the imposition of new taxes.
He advocates for a significant hike to $3 million, underscoring the importance of ensuring that this adjustment benefits citizens without imposing additional financial burdens.
