Stunning Salt Century Propels England to Thrilling Victory Against West Indies
Phil Salt’s scintillating unbeaten century guided England to a sensational seven-wicket triumph over the Windiess, narrowing the Twenty20 international series gap to 2-1.
The match took place at the National Cricket Stadium in Grenada on Saturday.
Salt, named Man-of-the-Match, shammered an unbeaten 109 off just 56 deliveries.
His breathtaking innings, adorned with four fours and an impressive nine sixes, orchestrated an improbable comeback for the English side.
Complementing Salt’s heroics, middle-order batsman Harry Brook played a crucial role with an unbeaten 31 off a mere seven balls, sealing the victory with a six off the bowling of West Indies’ Andre Russell.
Chasing a formidable target of 223, England made a rollicking start with skipper Jos Buttler contributing a valuable 51.
However, the West Indies bowlers tightened the screws, and Buttler’s dismissal appeared to shift the momentum in the hosts’ favor.
Yet, a spectacular late surge, led by Liam Livingstone’s brisk 30 off 18 balls and Brook’s explosive cameo, propelled England to victory with just one ball to spare.
Earlier in the day, the West Indies seemed poised for series victory after Nicholas Pooran’s blistering knock of 82 from 45 balls.
Despite a shaky start for the home side, Pooran’s exceptional innings anchored a middle-order onslaught that featured contributions from Rovman Powell (39), Sherfane Rutherford (29), and Shai Hope (26).
Summary:
West Indies 222-6 | *England 226-3
England won by seven wickets
West Indies lead 2-1
