Jamaican sprint sensation Shericka Jackson has etched her name into the annals of track and field history by becoming the most prolific sub-22 runner.

While she was unable to break the elusive 200-metre world this year, the 29-year-old MVP Track Club star has left an indelible mark on the sport with her remarkable achievements.

Closing the gap between her personal best and Florence Griffith-Joyner’s 1988 world record to a mere 0.07 seconds, Jackson’s relentless pursuit of excellence has solidified her status as one of the finest sprinters of her generation.

The 2023 season saw Jackson propel herself into track and field history by surpassing the 22-second benchmark an astonishing seven times.

This feat brought her career total of sub-22 performances to a record-breaking 17, one more than the iconic Merlene Ottey.

The Jamaican sprinter’s quest for the 200-metre record gained momentum in Budapest, Hungary, where she successfully defended her World Championships title with a swift 21.41 seconds.

Jackson continued her assault on the clock with impressive performances in Zurich (21.82) and Brussels (21.48), setting the stage for a climactic showdown in Eugene, Oregon, where she clinched the Diamond League final with a controlled run in 21.57 seconds.

Jackson’s seven sub-22 performances in 2023 showcased her extraordinary consistency and determination.

From Rabat to Monaco, and culminating in the Diamond League final, she blazed through the 200 metres with times of 21.98, 21.71, 21.86, 21.41, 21.82, 21.48, and 21.57.
