Jaheel Hyde Claims Jamaica’s First Gold Medal at 2023 Pan Am Games!

On Friday Jaheel Hyde clinched Jamaica’s first gold medal at the ongoing Pan American Games held in Santiago, Chile.

Hyde emerged victorious in the men’s 400m hurdles, boosting Jamaica’s medal count to five.

He completed the race in 49.19 seconds, outpacing Brazil’s Matheus Lima, who finished in 49.69 seconds, and Cuban Yoao Illias, who crossed the finish line in 49.74 seconds.

Unfortunately, the 2015 Pan Am Games champion, O’dayne Richards, and the national champion, Rajindra Campbell, couldn’t contribute to Jamaica’s medal tally in the men’s shot put final.

Campbell secured 8th place with a throw of 19.27m, while Richards finished 9th with a shot put distance of 18.37m.

The event was won by the Brazilian athlete Darlan Romani, who achieved a remarkable throw of 21.36m.

In other results from the same day, Lushane Wilson took the 7th position through a countback, managing a leap of 2.21m in the final of the men’s high jump.

Another Jamaican, Kristoff Bryan, placed 10th with a mark of 2.15m.

The Cuban athlete Enrique Zayas claimed victory with a leap of 2.27m.
