Crystal Palace Defender Tyrick Mitchell Considering Switch to Jamaica After England Snub

Crystal Palace defender Tyrick Mitchell is reportedly pondering a change in his international allegiance as he continues to be overlooked by England manager Gareth Southgate.

The 24-year-old left-back is said to be seriously considering the option of representing Jamaica on the international stage after being courted by the Jamaican national team for over a year.

This decision comes in the wake of Gareth Southgate’s latest squad announcement, where he opted not to include a natural left-back for the upcoming matches against Australia and Italy.

Tyrick Mitchell had previously been selected by Southgate in March 2022, earning two caps in friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast.

However, since those appearances, he has not received any further call-ups to the national squad.

As a result, Mitchell is now free to explore the possibility of switching his international allegiance to Jamaica, as his previous England appearances came exclusively in friendly matches.

Jamaica has had success in attracting England-eligible players to represent their national team in recent years.

Notable examples include Ethan Pinnock, Michail Antonio, and Demarai Gray, who have all made the decision to wear the Jamaican jersey.

Tyrick Mitchell’s potential switch to Jamaica would undoubtedly bolster the Reggae Boyz’s defensive options and provide a significant boost to their aspirations on the international stage.
