In a stunning upset at the ongoing World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Jamaica’s Danielle Williams secured the gold medal in the 100m hurdles on Thursday.
This victory echoed her remarkable achievement at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, China, where she also claimed an unexpected gold medal, defying the odds.
During the competition, the seasoned hurdler triumphed with a season’s best time of 12.43 seconds, securing Jamaica’s first gold medal at the 19th edition of the championships.
This remarkable achievement harks back to Williams’ prior victory and showcases her resilience and determination on the international stage.
In a surprising turn of events, the reigning champion managed to hand Jasmine Camacho-Quin from Puerto Rico her first defeat of the season, as Camacho-Quin secured the second position with a time of 12.44 seconds.
Another frontrunner, Kendra Harrison from the USA, also fell short and claimed the third spot with a time of 12.46 seconds. Notably, Harrison had entered the final with the swiftest time of 12.33 seconds, making her unexpected placement a notable twist.
In the final, Ackera Nugent, the other Jamaican contender, achieved a fifth-place finish with a time of 12.61 seconds.
