Former Hydel High star sprinter Ashanti Moore has been drafted into Jamaica’s team for the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, slated for August 19 to 27.

Moore’s inclusion comes as a replacement for Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce in the women’s 200m event.

The renowned 36-year-old Fraser-Pryce was initially named for the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m events, but uncertainties regarding her participation in the 200m led to her withdrawal.

This decision was solidified when her name was conspicuously absent from the final entry lists posted on the World Athletics’ website.

With Shericka Jackson holding a wildcard entry as the defending champion in the women’s 200m, Jamaica’s opportunity to field four female athletes in the category opened up.

Moore will join Jackson, Natalliah Whyte, and Kevona Davis in the 200m.

Jackson showcased her prowess at the Jamaican trials, securing first place with a remarkable time of 21.71 seconds.

Fraser-Pryce followed closely at 22.26 seconds, with Lanae-Tava Thomas from the University of Texas claiming third place in 22.55 seconds.

However, due to clearance issues from World Athletics following a change of allegiance, Thomas couldn’t take her spot, allowing Davis to assume her position.
