Record-Breaking Electricity Demand in Jamaica, Higher JPS Bills Expected!

Jamaica experienced a surge in electricity demand this week, reaching a new peak.

The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) attributes this record-breaking demand to the unusually high temperatures affecting the island.

With the rising heat, more fans and air conditioning units were turned on to combat the sweltering conditions, causing the demand to increase from 675 megawatt hours a month ago to 692 megawatt hours.

In anticipation of higher electricity bills for some individuals due to the increased demand, JPS has advised customers to ensure optimal efficiency of their AC units and fans.

The company emphasizes the importance of keeping air filters clean and unclogged, as dirty filters obstruct the normal airflow and force air conditioners to work harder, consuming more power.

JPS also encourages customers to choose energy-efficient ACs and fans, emphasizing their long-term cost-effectiveness and positive environmental impact.

By selecting energy-efficient appliances, customers can help reduce their electricity consumption and contribute to sustainable energy practices.
