Jamaica Denies Entry to 19 Chinese Nationals; Cites Coronavirus Travel Ban
A total of 19 Chinese nationals were denied entry into Jamaica over the weekend, with authorities acting on the travel ban to and from the Asian country.
The Caribbean island has been seeking to minimise the risk from the deadly coronavirus outbreak that has been affecting countries around the world and was recently reported to have caused more deaths than SARS.
According to reports, the Chinese tourists landed at night-time on the island of Jamaica on Friday, January 31.
While heading to passport control at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA), the 19 people were denied entry to the country and placed in a quarantined area in Kingston. They were then sent back to China on Saturday morning.
Jamaica imposed a travel ban to and from China on Friday after the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the outbreak of the coronavirus as an international emergency the day before.
It is in the city of Wuhan that the virus first emerged, and it remains most pronounced there. The new strain of that virus has killed at least 304 Chinese nationals up to Sunday morning, whilst another 14,380 people are reported as being infected by it across China.
Around the world, the virus has been reported in several other countries, including the United Kingdom, where the first reports came from a hotel in the city of York.
Understood to be tourists from China on holiday in the United Kingdom, the pair were taken away by paramedics wearing Hazmat suits.
Jamaica Not Gambling with Citizens’ Health
While at least 25 countries around the world have reported outbreaks of the coronavirus, Jamaica clearly doesn’t look to be the 26th.
So as to assure this, the local ban will see individuals travelling to the country from China be placed in quarantine for a period of at least 14 days at specific facilities. These are provided to the country by the Jamaican Government.
There is no point in gambling with the health of Jamaica’s residents, and the main job now is to try and contain the virus as much as possible.
Yet, for those people who want to engage in other forms of gambling, there are various online platforms for them to do so. To seek out one yourself, you can use the Efirbet.com website, which has a selection of recommended and compared online gambling sites.
Time will tell how many other travellers are turned away, not only from Jamaica, but from other countries too, as the threat of such a deadly virus is so prominent.
Alongside China and the United Kingdom having confirmed cases of the coronavirus, other locations include Australia, where 12 victims have been reported, Canada with four confirmed cases as of February 2, France which has reported six cases of the virus, and Japan with 20 confirmed victims.
