Peter Phillips Becomes PNP President
On Sunday afternoon (March 26), Dr Peter Phillips was sworn in as the fifth president of the People’s National Party (PNP).
He replaced Portia Simpson Miller who was at the helm of the party for eleven years.
Phillips was sworn in at a special delegates conference at the National Arena.
He told comrades that he was honoured to be elected to lead the party stating: the unanimous election was “a signal of the priority that you place on preserving and enhancing the unity and strength of the party”.
“When we are united, there is no force that can stop us from winning elections and thus positively transform Jamaica and improve the lives of the Jamaican people,” Phillips said.
Speaking at the conference, Simpson Miller urged comrades to give Phillips their full support.
“Every member and every supporter, I urge everyone of you to give your support to Phillips,” she said.
