J’can Woman Nabbed While Attempting to Enter the US With Cocaine in Beef Patties
On Tuesday, January 17, a Jamaican woman was reportedly arrested by law enforcement officials in the United States after she was caught with cocaine hidden inside beef patties at New York’s John F Kennedy International Airport.
According to the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency, upon her arrival on a flight from Kingston, Chantal Alecia Bedward was intercepted by officers.
An examination was later carried out by CBP officers who discovered what appeared to be a box of Jamaican beef patties.
A subsequent search of the box then revealed 12 duct-taped packages.
The packages contained a white powder that later tested positive for cocaine.
She was then arrested for the importation of a controlled substance and turned over to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
The cocaine weighed approximately four pounds and had an estimated street value of US$70,000 according to the CBP.
