Jamaica’s ‘Axeman’ Defeated By Lomachenko – Highlights
On Saturday night (November 26), Jamaica’s ‘Axeman’ – Nicholas Walters was defeated by Ukranian fighter Vasyl Lomachenko in Las Vegas.
Lomachenko, a rising star in boxing now boasts a record of 7 wins (5 via KO) and one loss.
His victory also means that he will retain the WBO junior lightweight title.
Walters, being the ferocious fighter that he is, was able to land a few notable body shots during the encounter, but the Ukranian proved to be a bit too slippery for him to inflict any real damage.
Lomachenko, because of his fighting style, has been compared to a young Muhammad Ali and his magical footwork on the night completely frustrated Walters for six rounds.
The fight concluded in the seventh round after Walters quit on his stool without much visible damage to his face.
Following the fight, Walters claimed he was hurt by punches he received in the seventh round.
However, his decision to stop fighting did not go down well with many in the boxing community:
I can think of many fighters who may not be close in skill level to Walters but they’d give their all if the opportunity came knocking!

Walters should get some of his purse withheld, this is a fight he never wanted, took the easy way out as soon as it made sense #Boxinghttps://t.co/aMaghd3uXK

Following the fight, Lomachenko stated:
“He said he was a warrior he would do this and that in the build up but what did he really do ? He’s a good fighter, really strong, but he stood there and made it easy for me.”
“My goal is to be the No 1 pound for pound fighter in the world. I had my plan I knew it would take about four rounds and then I went to work on him. In the end he just quit.”
