27,000 JPS Customers Without Power After Substation Fire

According to the Jamaica Public Service (JPS), work is now underway to restore power to sections of St Elizabeth following a power loss caused by a mentally challenged man who damaged equipment.

In a release, the JPS states that approximately 27 thousand customers are without electricity in St. Elizabeth due to a fire at the Maggotty Substation.

This is as a result of an incident involving a person of unsound mind entering the substation property causing damage both to himself and the property.

  

JPS also disclosed that the man has since been carried to the hospital for treatment and the incident is being probed.

Affected ares in the parish include: Ballards Valley, Big Woods, Black River, Burnt Savannah, Junction, Hopewell, Holland, Ipswich, Lacovia, Malvern, Middle Quarters, New Market, Southfield, Treasure Beach, Maggotty and surrounding areas.
