Jamaica Land We Love

Jamaica Land We Love

From the bosoms of England, Spain and Africa came the birth of a country we now know as Jamaica.

A country whose name is spread far and wide, as our achievements decorate every place and time.

A beautiful island painted with the sweat and blood of many, who laid down their so lives so we can live ours freely.

A melting pot of cultures who live in harmony as we now understand the true meaning of equality.

“Jamaica, Jamaica Land we love,” we sing like robots to the God up above,

But do we really understand the depths from which we should love?

Forgive me if I wrongly accuse but I think we’ve forgotten the meaning of the anthem we use, the pride of Jamaica stitched in our names, the history that’s pulsing in our veins, the bones we build our lives above…I think we’ve forgotten how to appreciate Jamaica Land we Love.

It’s by listening to the hills we still see, which were once a refuge for slaves with no choice but to flee.

It’s by learning the lessons sung by Bob Marley, treasuring the wise words of Marcus Garvey, Loving the language written by Louise Bennett-Coverly

Enjoying our tropical climate and crystal clear sea while wi shell down some yam, dumpling, saltfish and ackee.

It’s by making a dance floor crack under our famous dance moves from ska straight down to bruk back!

It’s by going to school or church regardless of race, age or gender

It’s by making friendships here that will last forever

It’s these little things that will always define our Jamaica, forever outsmarting the test of time,

And never failing to remind, us

To wear our nationality with pride,

To emulate the courage of those who have fought and died,

To be grateful for the blessings God continues to provide,

To seek out the many treasures Jamaica is full of,

To live up to the legacy written by those before us,

To fully appreciate Jamaica land we Love. 🙂

Yours truly,
