Asafa Powell Smashes National Record!

Asafa Powell smashed the Jamaican national 60m record in the morning session of the IAAF World Indoor Championships at the Oregon Convention Centre in Portland today (March 18).

This after he registered an insanely fast 6.44 seconds over said distance.

The former 100m World Record holder’s lightning fast time means that he has also recorded a new lifetime best and the fourth fastest 60m time in history.

He now shares the 3rd-fastest time in World Indoor Championships history and will undoubtedly be aiming to break Maurice Greene’s 15-year-old World Record 6.39 or his 17-year-old Championship Record 6.42 in the Final later night.

Remarkably, Powell appeared to ease up as he approached the finish line.

Powell previously clocked another world leading time of 6.49 seconds over the same distance earlier this year.
